Arun grew up in Coimbatore, at the foothills of the mighty Western Ghats in Southern India. He completed his undergraduate education in materials science from PSG College of Technology. Arun then got his master's degree in materials science from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign where he worked with Prof. Daniel P Shoemaker on manipulating the spin of antiferromagnets and designing new materials for a wide variety of applications. Currently, Arun is studying the solid-state chemistry of f-elements to achieve high-valent lanthanides.
