Luis is from Cuidad Juarez, Mexico, located right across the border from El Paso, TX. He completed his undergraduate studies at the University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP). During his time there, Luis worked under the mentorship of Prof. Dino Villagran and graduate student Karen Ventura on the synthesis and characterization of multiple-bonded ditungesten complexes. He also received a summer undergraduate fellowship at CalTech where he developed Co and Rh catalysts for hydrogen evolution with Prof. Harry Gray. Luis is currently working on the synthesis of photochemical f-element systems for small molecule activation.
