Grant grew up in central Alabama and completed his undergraduate work at Auburn University in Auburn, AL. During his time at Auburn, he worked with Dr Anne Gorden on the synthesis and characterization of f-element coordination complexes with novel optical properties. He is currently studying mixed-valent lanthanide complexes with an interest in magnetic phenomena.
