Julie Niklas

Ph.D., Auburn University, 2020

B.A., Sarah Lawrence College, 2015

Julie grew up in central Kentucky and attended Sarah Lawrence College in Bronxville, NY, where she studied poetry, as well as worked with Dr. Colin Abernethy on the synthesis of early transition metal nitrido and azido complexes. She completed her Ph.D. at Auburn University in Auburn, AL, in Dr. Anne Gorden’s laboratory, where she designed new redox-active ligands and studied the structural, electrochemical, and spectroscopic features of their uranium complexes. During this time she also studied the crystallography of organic and inorganic compounds. She is currently working on the development of tetravalent f-element starting materials and new transuranic complexes, and the exploration of their spectroscopic, physical, and coordinative behaviors.
